Gurdwara Kiara Sahib

Description:

Gurdwara Kiara Sahib is a historic Sikh shrine associated with the early life of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. According to Sikh tradition, the young Guru Nanak was once sent to graze cattle near this area. While he rested beneath a tree and became absorbed in meditation, the animals wandered into a nearby farmer’s field.

The farmer believed that his crops had been damaged and complained to Rai Bular, the local ruler of Talwandi. When they returned to inspect the field, however, Sikh tradition recounts that no damage could be found. This event became one of the stories associated with Guru Nanak’s childhood and with Rai Bular’s growing recognition of his spiritual nature.

The present shrine commemorates the field connected with this episode. Historical accounts also associate the development of the Gurdwara with the period of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, while the surrounding tank and boundary helped preserve the site as part of the sacred landscape of Nankana Sahib.
