Gurdwara Sri Chakki Sahib is a historic Sikh shrine associated with Guru Nanak Dev Ji and the invasion of Eminabad, then known as Saidpur, by the forces of Babur in 1521. Sikh historical traditions recount that Guru Nanak was among the people taken prisoner during the attack and was ordered to perform hard labour by grinding grain with a hand-operated millstone, or chakki.
According to the Janamsakhi tradition, while Guru Nanak sang hymns in remembrance of God, the millstone continued to turn without being physically driven by him. The event astonished those guarding the prisoners and was eventually reported to Babur, who came to meet Guru Nanak. Sikh accounts relate that after their meeting, Guru Nanak and the other captives were released.
The millstone associated with this episode was preserved, and a Gurdwara was later established at the site. The present shrine is comparatively simple, with a flat-roofed prayer space and a brick-paved compound, preserving the memory of one of the most significant episodes connected with Guru Nanak’s time in Eminabad.
