Gurdwara Janam Asthan Guru Ram Das, also known as Gurdwara Janamasthan Patshahi Chauthi, is a historic Sikh shrine marking the birthplace of Guru Ram Das Ji, the Fourth Sikh Guru. Guru Ram Das Ji was born in Lahore in 1534, and the site is traditionally identified with his childhood home in the historic Chuna Mandi area of the Walled City.
The shrine later became an important place of remembrance for the Sikh community. During the Sikh Empire, Maharaja Ranjit Singh developed the site and acquired surrounding land for the construction of a larger Gurdwara complex. The building stands on a raised marble platform and reflects the architectural importance given to the birthplace of the Fourth Guru.
Guru Ram Das Ji holds a central place in Sikh history as the founder of Ramdaspur, the settlement that later became Amritsar, and as an important contributor to the development of Sikh community life and devotional tradition. The Lahore shrine therefore preserves a direct connection with the early life of a Guru whose legacy would become deeply tied to some of the most important institutions and sacred places in Sikhism.
