Gurdwara Sri Bal Lila Sahib is one of the historic Sikh pilgrimage sites of Nankana Sahib and is closely connected with the childhood of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The site is traditionally believed to mark the area where the young Guru Nanak spent time playing with other children of the village. The name Bal Lila refers to the childhood activities of Guru Nanak. Sikh tradition remembers this place as more than a playground, describing how his spiritual nature and devotion were evident from an early age. While spending time with his childhood companions, Guru Nanak is believed to have shared reflections on God and encouraged the remembrance of Naam. The site is also associated with Rai Bular, the local ruler of Talwandi, who is remembered in Sikh tradition for recognising the spiritual qualities of the young Guru Nanak. The historic Nanaksar pond beside the Gurdwara is traditionally linked to Rai Bular, while the shrine itself was expanded and developed over later periods of Sikh history.
