Gurdwara Sri Patti Sahib

Description:

Gurdwara Sri Patti Sahib marks the place traditionally associated with the early education of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. As a young child in Nankana Sahib, Guru Nanak is believed to have studied Punjabi, Sanskrit, Persian and Arabic under different teachers, reflecting the languages and scripts commonly used in Punjab at the time.

The name Patti Sahib comes from the traditional wooden writing board, or patti, used by children to practise letters and writing. Sikh tradition remembers this site not only as a place of learning, but also as one where the spiritual insight of the young Guru Nanak became evident from an early age.
Stories connected with Patti Sahib describe how Guru Nanak surprised his teachers with his
understanding of deeper spiritual ideas and his reflections on God, humanity and the meaning behind written letters. These early episodes are remembered as part of the beginning of a life
devoted to spiritual wisdom, poetry and the message of one God.
