Gurdwara Janam Asthan Mata Sahib Kaur Ji

Description:

Gurdwara Janam Asthan Mata Sahib Kaur Ji is a historic Sikh shrine located inside Rohtas Fort in Jhelum District. The site marks the birthplace of Mata Sahib Kaur Ji, also known as Mata Sahib Devan Ji, who was born in Rohtas in 1681 into the family of Bhai Ramu Bassi and Mata Jasdevi Ji.

Mata Sahib Kaur Ji later became closely associated with Guru Gobind Singh Ji and holds a deeply respected place in Sikh tradition as Mata Sahib Kaur Ji, Mother of the Khalsa. Her life is remembered for devotion, seva, humility and her connection with the Sikh community during an important period in its history.

The Gurdwara stands within the historic settlement of Rohtas Fort and was repaired during the period of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. The older structure was later replaced by a domed building, and the shrine has undergone further renovation in more recent years to preserve this important Sikh heritage site.
