Gurdwara Shaheed Bhai Taru Singh

Description:

Gurdwara Shaheed Bhai Taru Singh is a historic Sikh shrine marking the martyrdom site of Bhai Taru Singh Ji, one of the most revered Sikh martyrs of the eighteenth century. He was known for supporting his widowed mother and sister through honest work while also helping Sikhs in need during a period of severe persecution.

According to Sikh historical tradition, Bhai Taru Singh was arrested for assisting members of the Sikh community and was pressured to abandon his faith. He refused and remained steadfast despite imprisonment and torture. A religious decree was eventually issued ordering that he be scalped alive. Sikh accounts remember that he continued repeating the name of Waheguru throughout his suffering and died in 1745.

A Gurdwara was later established at the place associated with his martyrdom. During the Sikh period, land was granted for the maintenance of the shrine, and it later came under the management of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee. After Partition in 1947, the shrine remained in Lahore and its administration passed to the authorities responsible for Sikh heritage properties in Pakistan.
