Gurdwara Janam Asthan — Nankana Sahib

Description:

Gurdwara Janam Asthan, also known as Gurdwara Nankana Sahib, is one of the holiest and most important pilgrimage sites in Sikhism. The shrine marks the birthplace of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism, who was born here to Mehta Kalu Ji and Mata Tripta Ji in the historic town once known as Rai Bhoi Ki Talwandi.

Over time, the town became known as Nankana Sahib in honour of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The Gurdwara stands at the heart of a wider sacred landscape that includes several other historic shrines connected with different stages of Guru Nanak’s childhood and early life.

Today, Gurdwara Janam Asthan remains a major centre of Sikh pilgrimage and devotion. It is officially recognised as a protected heritage monument in Punjab, Pakistan, and is managed as an active Sikh religious site. Pilgrims from Pakistan and around the world continue to gather here, particularly during celebrations connected with Guru Nanak Gurpurab.
