Sikh tradition holds that Guru Nanak arrived in <strong class=\"x7amdea\">Hasan Abdal<\/strong> with <strong class=\"x7amdea\">Bhai Mardana<\/strong> in 1521. The shrine takes its name from the <strong class=\"x7amdea\">panja<\/strong>, or handprint, believed to have been left by Guru Nanak on a large boulder that remains preserved within the Gurdwara complex. Pakistan\u2019s Department of Archaeology and Museums also identifies the site as a major historic Gurdwara associated with Guru Nanak\u2019s visit to Hasan Abdal.<\/p><p class=\"x1yc453h xma8rkl xgoqxah xutxfr x1fie51u xgyxj25 x1xobyvs x1elgs31 x1fv8qjw xcy5tzr x1ht4adc xnvauns x1c2l018 x14l7nz5 xuw7688 x1pjt2rx x160d6zm xrxpjvj\" dir=\"ltr\">According to Sikh tradition, Bhai Mardana became thirsty and approached <strong class=\"x7amdea\">Wali Qandhari<\/strong>, who controlled a spring on the nearby hill, but was refused water. Guru Nanak then caused water to flow from the place where he was sitting. The tradition further recounts that Wali Qandhari sent a large rock down the hillside, which Guru Nanak stopped with his hand, leaving the impression that gave the shrine its name.
