The site stands in the historic <strong class=\"x7amdea\">Shahidganj area of Naulakha Bazaar<\/strong>, opposite <strong class=\"x7amdea\">Gurdwara Shaheed Bhai Taru Singh<\/strong>, and is remembered as one of the major places of Sikh persecution and sacrifice in Lahore.<\/p><p class=\"x1yc453h xma8rkl xgoqxah xutxfr x1fie51u xgyxj25 x1xobyvs x1elgs31 x1fv8qjw xcy5tzr x1ht4adc xnvauns x1c2l018 x14l7nz5 xuw7688 x1pjt2rx x160d6zm xrxpjvj\" dir=\"ltr\">According to <strong class=\"x7amdea\">SGPC records<\/strong> and Sikh historical accounts, large numbers of Sikhs were imprisoned, brought to this area and executed during periods of severe persecution under eighteenth-century Punjab governors, including <strong class=\"x7amdea\">Mir Mannu<\/strong>. Sikh women were also confined and forced to perform hard labour, including grinding grain in the basement of the site, while enduring extreme suffering. During the Sikh Empire, <strong class=\"x7amdea\">Maharaja Ranjit Singh<\/strong> is recorded as having visited the shrine regularly and granted land for its maintenance.
